Long read: a featured primer on the history of architectural styles.

Grasp the grandeur under your nose

Our countryside masks relics of rich history. From mysterious minor manors to secretive stately parks; tens of thousands of country houses are hiding in plain sight, largely forgotten in their changed landscapes.

We’ve made it our mission to put together the most comprehensive country house map available, and we think we’ve succeeded.

Join us as we use it, gradually moving in the shadow of Pevsner through counties and villages of the UK. But this is the slow way. The road less travelled. Journeying into the past means following fading footpaths, ancient rights of way, holloways and drovers roads – leaving geocaches for our community as we walk.
